- I aim to work without sedation for general health floats and check ups. However, inevitably there will be times when sedation will be needed for dental treatment to be performed if a horse becomes particularly distressed or un-cooperative. This will require a repeat visit accompanied by your vet, which will also be the case if any major dental problems are identified which cannot be treated with floating and/or corrective rasping. This is fairly unusual however, and a health float can generally be performed with minimal fuss.
